Honore Daumier had been familiar with the world of the Notary profession ever since his youth, because for some time he worked as a clerk at a solicitor’s office. The slippers and the richly ornamented long robe were typical of the Parisian, money-thirsty notaries of those days. This sculpture is an adaptation of one of Daumier lithographic studies of different professions in France. With a touch of satire, he mocks the Notary for having avarice in a difficult time for the poor in France. Part of the Parastone Museum Collection of sculpture adaptations from famous paintings. Made from resin with hand painted color details, 3.9"H. HONORE DAUMIER (1808-1879) French artist, lithographer, caricaturist and painter who was famed for his biting satire. He was imprisoned once for six months in 1832 after drawing a cartoon of King Louis Philippe. Daumier produced about 4,000 lithographs and some 200 paintings, but did not receive major recognition until after his death.
