Extra Large Michelangelo's David Statue

This art piece was sculpted by Michelangelo (1475-1564) beginning in 1501, after being commissioned by the city of Florence, this classic masterpiece was completed and presented in 1504. Sculpted from a massive single block of costly Carrara marble, the original David is nearly eighteen feet tall and weighs well over nine tons! The statue depicts the biblical character David, King of Israel, with a sling over his shoulder ready to fight the giant Goliath. As the well-known story goes, David was able to slay the giant with a single stone, hurling it from his sling, striking Goliath on the head causing instant death.
