The Charioteer of Delphi is one of the best known ancient olympic game winner Greek statues and is one of the best preserved examples of classical bronze art shown at the Museum of Delphi and is considered to be a fine example of the "Severe" style. The charioteer of Delphi was erected at Delphi, in Greece, to commemorate the victory of a chariot race, probably in 474 BC. The statue was made not to celebrate the charioteer, as we might suppose, but the owner of the chariot and the team of four horses. The charioteer was discovered buried in a trench together with bits and pieces of a chariot, reigns, four horses and a groom, indicating that the charioteer was originally part of a much larger bronze sculpture.
