Large Pompeii Male Torso Statue

There is a mystical history to this partial cast artifact found in Pompeii, the lost city, that was a Roman refitting of an established and mature city built by others. The Romans incorporated ancient Pompeii into their regime in 89 B.C. and gave it the status of a colony in 80 B.C. It is generally agreed in large part that the city the Romans conquered resembled the one lost in the ashes cast by the Mount Vesuvius volcano eruption.
